Natures Chemotherapy, How to use Graviola leaves.

Natures Chemotherapy Graviola (Annona Muricata) Also known as soursop.

Could there be a tea that can kill cancer cells? If this is true why does hardly anyone know about it?

So here is the quick download on Graviola, otherwise known as Soursop

This tree grows in warm tropical climates all over the planet, not just the Amazon. Mine currently comes from Hawaii. It produces a delicious fruit. The leaves make a tea that has a woodsy vanilla flavor. This small evergreen tree with large glossy dark green leaves grows to a height of 12 to 15 ft. The edible fruit is heart-shaped, yellow green in color and white inside.

Graviola has gained much importance because of acetogenins, a group of potential anti-cancer agents, found in this plant.

Back in 1976 the National Cancer Institute performed scientific research that revealed that the leaves and stems of Graviola were found effective in attacking and destroying malignant cancer cells. While the results were published in an internal report, it was never released to the public.

Two Pharmaceutical companies spent millions to try to make a pill form with the same cancer cell killing properties. Since then over 20 independent labs have done testing. Well known institutions that are associated with Graviola research include, Sloan Kettering, Purdue University, National Cancer Institute, Most of these studies regarding health benefits of Graviola have been conducted on laboratory animals and have not been confirmed in humans. Why has no one done testing on people? Could it be for lack of financial gain? This type of double blind study is expensive and if you can’t patent the product, you dont see a return on your investment.

If you search the web you will find many people who live in the tropical climates where this grows use it and have wonderful testimonies of healing using graviola.

Graviola is best known for its anti-cancer properties. Researchers are very enthusiastic about Graviola being an alternative medicine to be used as supportive therapy for cancers, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, and lymphoma. It is one of the most studied properties of the tree and so far it has shown positive results.

Graviola has been purported to have a number of uses, especially therapeutic. Leaves, seeds, bark, fruits and roots are the traditionally used parts of this tree.

1. The leaves are used for headaches and insomnia and contain antioxidants known to fight inflammation.

2. Cooked leaves, applied topically, fight rheumatism and abscesses. In certain regions of Brazil, the oil of the leaves and unripe fruit is mixed with olive oil and used externally for neuralgia, rheumatism, and arthritis pain.

3. The fruit and fruit juice are used, as deworming and antiparasitic agents, as an astringent for diarrhea and dysentery, to cool fevers, and to increase mothers milk after childbirth

4. The seeds are crushed and used against internal and external parasites, head lice, and worms. However, it is important to note research has shown that seeds and roots contain certain toxins that could cause atypical Parkinson’s disease, personally I would not ingest seeds or roots. Use discernment.

5. Tea made from Graviola leaves has long been used in the Amazon region to treat liver and stomach disorders.
A tea made from the bark, leaves, and roots are used as a sedative, antispasmodic to calm the nerves, to reduce high blood pressure.

Health Benefits of Graviola

Pancreatic cancer: An increased metabolic activity and glucose concentration in the tumor cell has been linked to aggressive pancreatic cancer. One study published in the journal Cancer Letters showed that Graviola extract containing acetogenins acted in a way to decrease ATP production thus leading to death of cancer cells. Incidentally, the researchers found that it does not affect the healthy cells

Lung cancer- Adriamycin is sometimes used as the chemotherapy drugs for cancers including lung cancer and blood cancers. A Japanese study done on lab animals found that annonacin (acetogenin) could inhibit the growth of cancer cells in the lungs as much as Adriamycin, if not better. However, R. Webster Kehr, at Independent Cancer Research Foundation, warns that Graviola can be especially dangerous for lung cancer patients and brain cancer patients where a clustered amount of cancer dead cells (lysing) can be very dangerous.

Breast cancer- Researchers found that fruit extract of Graviola could successfully inhibit the growth of a gene that directly expresses cell growth (oncogene EGFR) which frequently over-expresses in breast cancer.Analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties- A study published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences on experimental animals supported these traditional uses for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities, suggesting a potential for therapeutic purposes. However, the researchers suggested further studies to be conducted to ensure its safe usage.

Diabetes- Graviola has been found to be beneficial in cases of diabetes. A Nigerian study revealed that leaf extract of Graviola significantly reduced blood glucose concentration in experimental animals, possibly by enhancing the effects of insulin and adrenalin. No human trials have yet been done.

High blood pressure- Studies have shown Graviola to be a hypotensive (reduces blood pressure), vasodilator (widens the blood vessels) and cardiodepressant (decreases heart rate and contractility). If you are using drugs for your high blood pressure, check with your doctor before taking Graviola as your medication may need adjusting.

Side Effects of Graviola

Although seeds and roots of graviola contain acetogenins that help in cancer therapy, I would avoid them because other chemicals present in these parts have shown neurotoxic effects similar to atypical Parkenson’s disease.

There is no evidence that taking Graviola in pregnancy lactation is safe. Consult your doctor regarding the use of this alternative medicine.

How do you make Graviola Tea?

Start with a non reactive container, glass or ceramic, one that you can simmer in is best. You can always brew in a coffee pot if necessary. Avoid metal pots like stainless steel as metals can react with any herbal preparation. And if you have aluminum pots and pans just throw them out! I like to use an old corning ware pot that holds over a quart of water. Use 8-10 leaves to 1.5 quarts water, start with a rolling boil then decrease tempature to a low simmer till its been reduced by a third. This may take 20 minutes or more to obtain about a quart of tea. The tea should be a light to medium brown.

What different ways can I use Graviola?

I have found at least five ways to use the leaves or tea for healing.
1. Tea, 2) a poultice, 3) a colon implant, 4) a bath soak and 5) a douche.

How do you make a poltice?

A poultice is an traditional way of using herbs that is becoming a lost art. With modern kitchen gadgets its easier then mashing in a mortar and pestle. I find a nutrabullet works nicely. Grind a tablespoon of physllum husk into a powder, then grind dry leaves (with stems removed) to create a fine powdery base. I then add a couple of Tbs of already made tea to make a paste that can be rolled between 2 sheets of saran wrap and then placed on cheesecloth or muslin. You can then apply this to any area of the body. You can make this without the physllum, I just find it works nicely as a binder, holding it all together and adding moisture to keep your poltice pliable.

Whats a colon implant?

A colon implant is any liquid placed in the colon for absorbtion into the body. Its best to do this after a colonic, a colema or an enema has been administered. After the colon is clean then you “implant” several ounces of tea into the colon. You just relax and allow the body to absorb the liquid as much as possible for 10-15 minutes. most people do this with an implant bucket or a enema bag. If your intrested in purchasing one, please check my website for more information,

A Bath Soak is a great way to allow the entire body to absorb the benefits of graviola. Just place your tea in bathwater. This is also a great way to use the leaves a second time after brewing the tea.

Use straight tea for a douche.

Spring cleaning?

Spring cleaning anyone? If you want to flush your liver…..

I was asked by several different people to write-up some suggestions for detoxing, and especially for gallbladder/liver decongesting. Spring is in the air and if you are feeling the flow of the seasons, you may be moved to do some internal spring cleaning, I have a few suggestions. Take it from me, I have learned a lot since my first liver flush twelve years ago.

It’s funny how we fuss over our cars, making sure the cruddy old oil is changed and the filters are replaced and we don’t think twice about running around putting fried gunky fats into our body filters along with a million other substances and NEVER give our filter, the liver, a flush. So even if you don’t think a flush is for you. By just doing some of the suggestions in this article, you can do some minor housekeeping and show your liver some love.

Signs your body would benefit from a liver cleanse…

Taken from one of my favorite reference books Linda Pages Healthy Healing Do you have the following issues, or could use some help in these areas?

Unexplained fatigue, depression, fatigue, lethargy, lack of energy, allergic reactions, unexplained weight gain, distended stomach, mental confusion, sluggish elimination, general constipation, alternating to diarrhea, chemical sensitivities, poor digestion, unexplained nausea, migraine headaches, menstrual difficulties, bags under the eyes, liver spots, poor hair texture, itchy skin, slow hair growth, anemia, large bruise patches

Can you really flush stones from the gallbladder?

Can you really flush the liver or flush stones from the gallbladder? Some will debate whether the stones that can be released from the body are actually Gall stones or just clumps of olive oil from the cleanse. Well from my experience helping others as a colon hydro therapist I saw a variety of “stones” and well I have to tell you, they look exactly like the stones I have seen in pictures of surgically removed gall bladders.

What do gallstones look like?

What do gallstones look like?

Just google “gallbladders with stones” and click on images to get a picture. They come in a wide variety of shapes, colors and sizes. Yellow, Green, White and Black! Sand like grain to nickel sized, pea shaped and colored. Yep that’s exactly what I saw, but I am not diagnosing here just observing. You will have to draw your own conclusions after you have your own experience. Does it hurt? NO! Can they get stuck? Yes, that’s what happens when the gallbladder gets full and the biliary duct gets overloaded. Then people go have the gallbladder surgically removed. Does that hurt? A whole lot more than a successful cleanse. Can people actually do this themselves? Yes, I have seen it done many times, safely. The body does not come with an owners manual, but we can find some maintenance instructions around from others, if we educate ourselves. Humans have done these for many years. Is it scary? No not really, but our modern medical system does not do liver flushes, so the only scary part for some, is fear of the unknown.

As with any and all of what I share in writing, I must put in the disclaimer that I am NOT a doctor, if you decide to attempt do a liver flush, please take full responsibility for your body and if you have gallbladder issues then for goodness sakes, take it easy on yours self and always check in with the Doctor. Read lots of information to get informed.

Before during and after the flush

So part of detoxing is not just what your eating, it’s what you’re eliminating. Alcohol just cannot be consumed in order to do this right. Save the wine for later. If it makes you feel any better, you can have some grape juice, just not the fermented kind.

Coffee, well this is where it gets complicated… you see you don’t drink it when your flushing the liver. Coffee is hotly debated as a substance that actually stresses the liver. Some great info on that topic can be found here But it is highly effective at flushing the liver when it’s placed in the colon with an enema bag. Never heard of such a thing. Well neither had I until I read a piece from a doctor that recommended you take one for a migraine. The theory is when you use coffee in the colon it stimulates the liver to pump and dump old bile, in with new fresh bile. Kinda flush the filters here, are ya following me? And if that old bile was loaded with an abundance of medications, chemicals, or some other substance throwing the hard-working liver off-balance, then good riddance.

Processed foods with preservatives, food colorings, pesticides, trans fats, corn syrup, antibiotics, you get the idea. The liver is our chemical factory and well, we gotta cut off some outside burdens in order to maximize the benefits here. Try not to take any over the counter medications while you do this too.

Wash your veggies Preferably if your going to put the effort into a cleanse, you go organic. But if you’re not, please wash your fruits and veggies good. You’ll be defeating your purpose if you don’t.

Water, Consciously make the effort to HYDRATE your body cells. Take your body weight in pounds, cut it in half and that’s how many ounces of water you should drink a day. 140 Lb person should drink 70 ounces of high alkaline structured water a day. We humans are 83% water. Coffee, tea, soda, juice, beer NOTHING else counts for water. Would you think of cleaning your counter with coffee or soda? No, and you don’t clean your insides without a high intake of high quality water. There are lots of machines that do this and if you want to try some alkaline bottled water brands that have become popular due to their balanced PH include Voss, Sanfaustino, San Pellegrino, Eternal, Gerolsteiner, Saratoga, Penta, Calistoga, Volvic, and eVamor.

Liver friendly foods

Liver friendly foods

Foods that are particularly good for the liver.

I have seen lots of liver cleanses, and they almost all include Apples. Malic acid is a key nutrient that helps with the breakdown of stones. Some protocols suggest 1500 mg of malic acid daily with magnesium if you want to take supplements. Get a gallon jug of organic non pasteurized apple juice. If your going to juice it yourself that’s even better. Have some a couple of times a day. Apple cider vinegar is another popular way to get your malic acid. Need another idea for your liver flush? How about a nice Apple Waldorf salad with celery, minima, grapes and walnuts. If you seed the apples before you make your own juice, save the pulp, add some cinnamon and you have a homemade “raw” applesauce.

Garlic and Onions

Garlic helps your liver activate enzymes that can flush out toxins. It has a high amount of allicin and selenium, two natural detoxifying elements.. It is also thought that garlic can help the liver detoxify mercury from the body, as well as excess estrogen. Add garlic to a savory green juice or smoothie

Does a liver good!

Does a liver good!

Lemon & Grapefruit

Lemons are on everybodys liver detox list from Dr Oz to the master cleanse. Eating or drinking grapefruit & lemon juice can help your liver flush out carcinogens and toxins. These fruits are also high in both vitamin C and have antioxidant properties. Lemons detoxify petrochemicals which can tax the liver functions. ½ a lemon in hot water every morning for a daily maintenance drink. A home-made salad dressing of lemon juice, garlic, herbs and olive oil on a green salad is a great “love your liver” meal. Some people even take a small amount of olive oil and grapefruit (2 T each) at night before going to sleep to help the liver purge slowly.

Beets are high in a particular phytonutrient called betaine, that supports the liver in is function to convert fat to energy. Which can improve the overall functions of your liver. They are natural blood purifiers and are a wonderful liver tonic. If you are just starting out, go slow using a small amount of beet at first and check your personal beet tolerance. Need some ideas to eat more beets? Borscht soup, grated beet salad with olive lemon oil salad dressing, or one of my favorites oven roasted tossed in balsamic and fresh pressed garlic with a lil healthy oil.

Bitter leafy Greens ORGANIC
Dandelion, arugula, kale, chard, spinach have the ability to neutralize metals, chemicals and pesticides that may be in our foods, and act as a protective mechanism for the liver. The bitterness of these foods helps to stimulate bile flow within the liver, and chlorophyll from the greens supports new blood cell manufacturing. Since these soft tender greens are permeable you want to make sure they are not sprayed with harmful pesticides. This is what were trying to get rid of. These darker greens (kale salads) are becoming more popular and easier to find when you’re traveling and are the easiest way to eat your greens. Some like to add greens to smoothies for the fiber. I love adding some of these bitter greens to juices (apple and lemon) or raw soups.

Adding more avocados to your diet can help your body produce a type of antioxidant called glutathione, which is needed for our livers to filter out harmful materials.

Cruciferous veggies
Like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts and kohlrabi also increase the amount of glucosinolate (organic compounds) in our bodies that helps create enzyme production for digestion and are also good sources of sulfur and help the liver detoxify. Raw cruciferous veggies help the liver to produce enzymes it needs for its detoxification processes.

Tumeric and Ginger
A spice, tumeric has been known to help our bodies digest fats and stimulate the production of bile. It can also act as a natural form of detox for your liver. I usually just throw some raw tumeric or ginger root in my juicer with a couple of apples and a lemon. Turmeric is highly recognized for its immune building properties across the globe.

Walnuts are also high in glutathione and omega-3 fatty acids, which help support our liver through its cleansing process. Add some to your raw green salad, in your waldorf apple salad, or just munch on them plain as a snack.

Artichoke has been said to have the ability to help the liver regenerate. It stimulates and increases bile production, helping remove toxins and unfriendly bacteria through the bowels. Some research suggests that 30 minutes after eating a globe artichoke, bile flow is increased by over 100% Remember fresh is better than canned when it comes to the enzymes content of almost all foods.

The average liver diet day

Looking for a daily routine to help improve your liver and start cleansing it slowly? Here is a suggestion to get you started.

Upon arising ½ Lemon with hot 6 oz hot water. Add cayenne or hot sauce if you like it spicy use stevia or monkfruit if you need to sweeten WATER

Breakfast – Plant based protein smoothie with some kind of vital greens, spirulina, apple juice, berries or banana, hemp or coconut milk WATER

Snack- an apple or half a grapefruit, applesauce with cinnamon or waldorf salad. WATER

Lunch- mixed veggie soup, beet, carrot, or apple salad or any mixture of cruciferous. Veggies. WATER

Snack- ½ an artichoke marinated in Garlic, herbs and balsamic vinegar. WATER

Lunch- Dark green leafy green chopped salad with lemon/olive oil dressings. You can add a wide variety of mixed veggies, avocado, walnuts, pumpkin or hemp seeds or an egg for additional protein. WATER

Before bedtime. Apple juice with a dropper full of ortho-phos or grapefruit juice. WATER

You will notice that might look like a lot of water, but were actually still missing one recommended glass of water for the daily overall recommended intake…

So we do this for a week and then we can talk about the actual flush.. I will be posting personal favorite recipes for liver flush prep week…..

Is there a link between bras and breast cancer?

Part of empowering ourselves for health includes educating ourselves. Taking the time to read food labels for unwanted ingredients, a pharmaceutical manufacturers warning sheet or maybe some cosmetic ingredient list for those hidden things our body can do without. Most of the time we think the of the things we put inside our body or maybe put on the skin. Never, till I had a lump in my breast 10 years ago, did I think of my underwire bra of being a potential problem maker for ill-health.

So when I recently read the article “dressed to kill” about breast cancer and bras I had to share this information. It reminded me of how I had to learn about it the hard way long ago. Today I am amazed at how many women still don’t know that tight underwire bras possibly create a block in their lymph flow. Now I understand that if you work in corporate America it’s a little difficult to just stop wearing a bra to work. I had to figure that one out for myself, but is wearing a underwire bra worth interfering with your long-term health? Can you find a “healthy” alternative?

An interesting excerpt from the article mentions one study in Fiji. It found 24 case histories of breast cancer in a culture where half the women are bra-free. The women getting breast cancer were all wearing bras. Given women with the same genetics and diet and living in the same village, the ones getting breast disease were the ones wearing bras for work. Coincidence? You decide.

I know this topic can be controversial, but the logic of this article will make you stop and think. How did my personal story end? Well between the diagnostic testing visits I underwent a 2 week cleanse with juicing, colonics and rebounding. I also stopped using commercial deodorants with aluminum in them and took the wires out my existing bras till I found some other alternatives. When the sonogram technician told me there must have been a mistake, the lump was not as big as the first scan indicated 😉 I knew I was on to something. My test returned benign and I was glad to have this experience and learn from it. If you would like a personal wellness coaching consultation, please send me an email on the contact form below.
